<p>The term laceration implies a torn or jagged wound. Lacerations tend to be caused by blunt trauma (such as a blow, fall, or collision). Cuts and lacerations are terms for the same condition. The term laceration is commonly misused in reference to incisions.<br  /><br />
<br  /><br />
A laceration may be large or small, if the laceration is minor then minimal bleeding could occur, but in some cases it may bleed a lot. Minor lacerations cause less pain and no numbness and tingling at the site. If a laceration bleeds a great deal with no sign of stopping, it needs to be closed with stitches. If any bone and tendons could be seen then the wound has to be stitched. Stitches may also be needed to keep the wound from becoming infected and to reduce the scarring that may develop after it has healed. Old wounds are not possible to be stitched easily. There are some kinds of laceration that may heal without the need of stitches. The healing time for a laceration depends on its location. For instance, a cut on the leg usually heals more slowly than one on the head. Stitches are usually removed within 5 days to 2 weeks. The cut will continue to heal for up to 6 months.<br  /><br />
<br  /><br />
Minor lacerations could be treated by following steps:<br  /><br />
<br  /><br />
     &#8226; The site should be cleaned well with an antibacterial soap and warm water.<br  /><br />
     &#8226; An effective topical gel or ointment should be used<br  /><br />
     &#8226; The laceration site should be covered with sterile gauze or a Band-Aid. <br  /><br />
       The Band-Aid should be changed when needed or when soiled. The wound <br  /><br />
       underneath should be cleaned and the ointment should be applied again.<br  /><br />
     &#8226; If red streaks or drainage appears around the site, then medical help should <br  /><br />
       be taken.<br  /><br />

But in some cases the laceration is not a minor one and stitches are required. In this situation the wound care is different, which is as follows:<br  /><br />
<br  /><br />
     &#8226; The wound site should be kept clean.<br  /><br />
     &#8226; An antibiotic ointment should be used if prescribed by the doctor.<br  /><br />
     &#8226; The site should be elevated as this would prevent or decrease pain, swelling <br  /><br />
       and throbbing.<br  /><br />
     &#8226; Medications to reduce pain can be used.<br  /><br />
     &#8226; Return to the doctor to get the stitches removed within 7-10 days or when asked.<br  /><br />
     &#8226; Complete monitoring of the wound should be kept, if any redness or drainage <br  /><br />
       is seen, then medical attention should be taken.<br  /><br />
     &#8226; Once the stitches are removed then Vitamin E can be used on the wound site, as <br  /><br />
       it helps in reducing the scar.<br  /><br />

<br  />A good number of scalps would then produce enough power to turn a flashlight on.<br />

<br  />This electrical power is very minimal and limited, but only the human brain has the power to unleash it and in ways peculiar to the species. Each and every electrical activity originating in the brain is manifested in the form of brainwaves.<br />

<br  />Depending on the level of activity from the most to the least brainwaves are categorized into four. When the brain is on the alert and energetically engaged in mental activities, it generates beta waves. These low amplitude waves are also the fastest among the 4 categories.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />The measured frequency of these waves ranges from 15 &#8211; 40 cycles per second. An actively thinking mind showcases the characteristics of a Beta wave. A person in animated conversation would also be generating beta waves. A debater doing a rebuttal would surely be in high beta state.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />A commanding speaker, or a professor, or a host/commentator would all be emitting beta while carrying out their work.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />Next in the order of brainwave category is the alpha frequency. Where beta wasassociated with arousal/alertness, alpha stands for the exact opposite. These brainwaves are relatively slower, and proportionately higher in amplitude, with frequencies ranging from 9 &#8211; 14 cycles/second.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />A janitor who slumps down on a chair after accomplishing a task is undoubtedly in the alpha state. An executive who takes a break for reflection or meditation is, by all measures, in alpha state. A delegate who goes out of the conference hall and does a leisurely round in the garden should be in no other state but alpha.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />Third category is composed of theta brainwaves, typically greater in amplitude and much slower in frequency. This type of wave normally toggles from 5 to 8 cycles per second.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />A person who stops everything he is doing and just sits there daydreaming is more often than not in a theta state. A motorist who has been driving on the freeway for a while, and realizes he can not remember the last five miles, is surely in theta states lulled by the non-stop, uneventful freeway driving.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />The monotony of driving along straight concrete roads compared to that along a scenic and winding country road induces the theta state of mind.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />Those individuals who spend a lot of time on the freeway often get brilliant ideas while they are in that theta state. People who often commune with nature get to such level of mental rest that is slower than the alpha and when in theta, they experience a sudden gush of creativity.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />This can be attained even in the shower or tub or even when grooming. Theta state is achieved when a task becomes so mechanical that one can disengage mentally from it. The process of ideation that occurs during the theta state is often spontaneous and takes place without any restriction or inhibition. It is a very tranquil state of mind.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />The ultimate of all brainwaves is delta, where amplitude is at its highest and frequency drops to the slowest. They generally revolve around the estimated range of 1.5 &#8211; 4 cycles per second. Once they drop to zero, you are already brain dead.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />Deep dreamless sleep would take you down to the lowest frequency. Typically, 2 to 3 cycles a second.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />When we read for a while to coax sleep, we are likely to be in low beta. Once we put the book down or it slips off our hand, we reach for the light switch and close our eyes, our brainwaves drops from beta, down to alpha, lower to theta and finally, when we give in to sleep, to delta.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />Humans are known to dream in 90 minute cycles. When the delta frequencies increase wake up into the theta brainwaves, active dreaming takes over and very often becomes experiential or very real to the person.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />Typically there is rapid eye movement at this stage. Also known as REM, is a commonly felt phenomenon.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />When an individual wakes from deep sleep and shifts to aware stage in preparation for getting up, his brainwave&#8217;s frequency increases with the specific stages of brain activity. It switches from delta to theta, then from alpha into until finally into beta when the alarm goes off.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />If that individual hits the snooze button his frequency is temporarily frozen to a non-aroused state, occasionally into theta, or totally drops back to sleep in delta. During this awakening cycle it is possible for individuals to stay in the theta state for an extended period of say, five to 15 minutes&#8211;which would allow them to have a free flow of ideas about yesterday&#8217;s events or to contemplate the activities of the forthcoming day.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />This time can be an extremely productive and can be a period of very meaningful and creative mental activity.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />To summarize, there are four brainwave states that everyone goes through without really consciously experiencing them. These brainwaves range from deep undisturbed slumber up to conditions of high arousal.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />Research shows that although one brainwave state may take over at any given time, the remaining three brain states surface at any given time depending on the situation he is in.</p>

<p>For anyone born during the post-World War II Era, up until the Vietnam Era, you have been automatically labeled a Baby Boomer.  This generation had proven to be the largest in quite some time, and as they get older, more of a focus has been placed on becoming much healthier.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />The Baby Boomers have seen the toll that hard work, lack of proper sleep, and poor nutrition have had on both their parents&#8217; and grandparents&#8217; generations, and this has been motivation to make a difference in overall lifestyle choices.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />First and foremost, everything we do to our bodies has some kind of impact, whether it is positive or negative.  But what we eat can sometimes help us to improve our quality of life, and make it possible to add several years to our lives.  Good nutrition is significant, because it can release antioxidants for heart health, or help us to feel more energized so we engage in more activity throughout the day.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />As long as we are practicing good nutrition, the next step would be to exercise.  Whether you go to the gym every day of the week, or simply walk a mile a couple of days a week, physical activity has proven its benefits, especially to people over the age of forty.  Getting the body moving increases blood flow for heart health, releases endorphins for mental health, and allows the body to sweat, releasing toxins that are extremely bad for the skin and other organs.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />Another element that the Baby Boomers should consider is the impact of cigarettes and alcohol on personal health.  This generation grew up in an era where nothing much was thought about smoking several cigarettes a day, and imbibing alcohol was a regular occurrence in many homes.  It seems like such obvious advice, but giving up smoking, and limiting the amount of alcohol you consume can really add years to your life.  But really, the way you feel will improve one hundred percent.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />The last element of a healthy lifestyle for Baby Boomers would be a good night&#8217;s sleep.  So often, working adults feel that they can get through the day on only a few hours, and be fine.  Yet, what they do not realize is that, even though they may be able to function at the office that does not mean that this behavior is healthy.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />Looking and feeling great involves taking care of your body, and taking the time to relax and fall asleep in a timely fashion often falls to the wayside.  But many people of this generation are beginning to realize the need for sleep, and taking steps to ensure they fall asleep quickly at a decent hour, to wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the day.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />Unlike with exercise, nutrition and quitting smoking and drinking, you do not have to do much to practice this method of health.  All it takes is lying on the bed, and drifting off into a deep slumber, and years will be added to your life.<br />
<br  /><br />
<br  />By combining all of these positive behaviors, the Baby Boomer generation will demonstrate that they will far outlive the average age of their parents and grandparents.  All it takes is four positive steps.</p>

<p>We hear a lot about &#8220;Alternative Health&#8221; and &#8220;Alternative Medicine&#8221; from many sources. These &#8220;Alternative&#8221; disciplines are becoming more and more sought after, by more people then ever before. Usually it is because current mainstream medicine and practices have failed to help them, written them off as terminal or are just plain out of reach because of the astronomical costs involved. But, for many who may not have been exposed to some of these additional avenues available, the question is asked, &#8220;What are these &#8220;alternative&#8221; disciplines and why are they called &#8220;alternative&#8221;?</p>
<p>Here in the West, we have a medical system that is based in a culture of created, designer drugs being used to override the body&#8217;s natural processes and then using surgery when that doesn&#8217;t work. It is a system that is completely controlled by the American Medical Association (the AMA) and Pharmaceutical companies. It is a system that treats symptoms with these created drugs to ease pain or cover apparent symptoms, rather than going for the cause of the illness, and working to cure the patient.</p>
<p>(Because the physical symptoms are usually just a reflection of the real problem, which is frequently emotional or energy based, and not part of the actual physical body at all, the purely physical approach can&#8217;t reach it.) This approach has done a lot of good for many, killed many others and created many hardships, through dangerous and sometimes lethal side effects, for many, many others.</p>
<p>&#8220;Alternative&#8221; health is anything else that does not fit into the main steam system. This includes many different disciplines, some with their origins in oriental medicine, others based in herbalogy, energy practices and others, but they all are based on the idea of using systems that have developed ways to assist the body&#8217;s natural functions in order to allow it to heal itself. When using these systems, there aren&#8217;t any side effects that require you to go back to the doctor to obtain more drugs to deal with the problems that the last drugs caused.</p>
<p>The majority of these &#8220;alternative&#8221; practices are not accepted by main steam medicine here in the West because they are not controlled by the AMA or they don&#8217;t use the designer drugs that the Pharmaceutical companies create and depend on for their profits. From the point of view of the powers that be, there isn&#8217;t enough money directed into their bottom lines from these systems for them to be allowed to compete with their carefully constructed and media supported cash flow. After all, if everyone were able to go to places to find simple, inexpensive cures, where would a great many of the medical community and the Pharmaceutical companies go to make their profits? They need a continually sick public to market their products to. There isn&#8217;t any profit for them in a healthy, vigorous public!</p>
<p>Some of the areas of discipline that are considered &#8220;Alternative&#8221; are;</p>
<p>Ayurvedic Medicine,  Aromatherapy,  Acupuncture,  Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT),  Herbal Medicine,  Homeopathy,  Magnetic Therapy,  Frequency Treatments,  Naturopathy,  Osteopathy,  Qigong,  Reflexology,  Reiki,  Shiatsu,  Yoga,  Chiropractic Treatments,  Vibrational Healing,  Hypnotherapy,  Iridology,  Kinesiology,  and Massage  to name just a few.</p>
<p>Some of these areas of treatment have been used successfully by people in other countries and cultures for thousands of years, some for hundreds and some are fairly new within the last 40 to 50 years. Suffice it to say that there are many ways for people to get relief and and to get help that allows their body to do the work it was designed to do, without the side effects and the astronomical cost of the drugs being fostered on a media blitzed public.</p>
<p>If you are interested in finding out more about any of these areas, all you have to do is turn to the internet. There is a great deal of information about them if you are willing to do some searching. It could be well worth the time and effort to broaden your knowledge about them. It could save your life, as well as your bank account.</p>

<p>Chelation therapy is largely unknown, ignored, and condemned by conventional medicine, with organizations like the American Heart Association and the American Medical Association have openly denounced chelation therapy as being ineffective and unproven as a result of several reasons, most of which are influenced by politics.  The main reason why chelation therapy is not endorsed by the majority of those in conventional medicine is because it represents a threat to the conventional medicine establishment.  This threat is not one of corruption or a threat to patient&#8217;s health, but a threat of losing millions of dollars each year.<br />
The many different organizations and people who are part of the treatment of cardiovascular ailments are paid billions of dollars each year, with each bypass surgery that is performed brining in between $25,000 and $50,000, and each angioplasty up to $15,000.  The variety of drugs that lower cholesterol, normalize heart rhythm, relieve pain, and reduce high blood pressure, along with the numerous consultations, tests, retests, and exams add up to hundreds of millions of dollars.  Chelation therapy poses and economic threat, bringing on itself the condemnation of the conventional medical world.<br />
Pharmaceutical companies go along with this condemnation toward chelation therapy in order to keep EDTA chelation therapy from becoming main stream.  They do this because EDTA chelation has recently lost its patent, with no pharmaceutical company wanting to undertake the huge amounts of money that it would take to document the therapeutic effects of chelation adequately enough so that it may be recognized by the FDA.<br />
Also, because there are hundreds of products that have been developed for treating the many symptoms of heart disease, which include hypertension, angina, and arteriosclerosis, just to name a few, developing a product that could prevent or at least improve a condition of heart disease would mean that the need for these other medications would disappear, which results in a huge financial loss for pharmaceutical companies.<br />
The point of this is that despite the apparent safety and effectiveness of chelation therapy in preventing and reversing the effects of heart disease, it is being held back because of money and politics.  This is extremely unfortunate for those people who suffer from heart disease, when considering that doctors, pharmaceutical groups, and other that make up the medical establishment should make their patients&#8217; health their first priority, rather than how much money they could potentially lose by suggesting treatment options like chelation therapy.<br />
EDTA has been shown to help with scleroderma, rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, along with vascular disease and heavy metal poisoning.  It has been shown to be after than other chelating agents that have been used for rheumatoid diseases, with studies proving that it chelates unwanted calcium that has been deposited in joint areas, tendons, and muscles.<br />
All in all, EDTA chelation therapy has been shown to be extremely safe, with virtually no side effects being discovered and its long term use has not resulted in any documented severe side effects.  Like any other kind of therapy, there are some individuals who should consult their health practitioner before considering EDTA chelation therapy.  These include pregnant women and those with impaired kidney function.</p>

<p>Ten minutes here, five minutes there &#8211; at the desk at work, on the couch before dinner and everywhere in between is not the way to get a good night of sleep.  Instead of trying to hunt for places that might seem a little comfortable at random points throughout the day, why don&#8217;t you try that bed of yours, for eight hours during the night?  After all, it has been calling you for quite some time now.</p>
<p>While you do not have to become addicted to sleeping, it should definitely take precedence in your life, at least at night.  It should be an enjoyable experience that you look forward to, rather than something that you try to squeeze in between a million other responsibilities.  Completely change the way you view getting rest, despite all your trouble falling asleep at night, and all the stress in your life.
